About Us
Ann Arbor Artist Studios is a creative workspace and community for artists at all stages of their practice—emerging, established, and everything in between. Located on the west side of Ann Arbor in Jackson Square Plaza, our studios offer an accessible and welcoming environment where artists can work, connect, and grow without the barriers of traditional private studio spaces.
The studio was originally opened in 2013 as the home of Ann Arbor Women Artists, at the time the largest local artist group in the area with over 500 members and a history spanning more than 50 years. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, AAWA dissolved, and in 2022 the space was reimagined and renamed Ann Arbor Artist Studios under the direction of artist and founder Katie Hammond.
Katie Hammond is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Art & Design (2004) and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2016). To learn more about her work, visit www.katiehammondartist.com.
Ann Arbor Artist Studios is designed as both a working studio environment and a flexible creative hub. The space includes eight private studios, a classroom for workshops and Open Studio sessions, a shared kitchen and lounge, an entryway gallery for rotating exhibitions, an art resource library, and dedicated storage areas including custom storage solutions for artists’ work and materials.
We are conveniently located on the AATA bus line, with a stop directly in front of the Plaza, making the studios easily accessible for artists across the region.
Our goal is simple: to provide a grounded, supportive place where artists can make meaningful work, build community, and stay connected to their practice over time.
